Pole Position and Superstock victory for Loris Cresson in the Estoril 12 Hours
Loris Cresson continued his adaption to racing on 1000cc motorcycles in the latest round of the FIM Endurance World Championship for the BMRT 3D Maxxess Nevers Kawasaki squad in the Estoril 12 Hours… and winning!
No stranger to the Portuguese venue, having made his WorldSBK debut there in 2020, Loris showed pace throughout, and along with his team mates secured Pole Position in the Superstock category ahead of the gruelling twelve-hour encounter.
Given the accolade of starting the race, which meant taking part in the typical Le Mans style sprint to your motorcycle, Loris improved their overall position during the first stint, the entire team doing an amazing job to secure the Superstock victory, claiming an incredible P6 overall, against several factory Superbike teams.
Buoyed by his first World Championship win, the young Belgian now heads to the iconic TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands where he will take part in Round 5 of the FIM Superbike World Championship with Outdo TPR Team Pedercini.
“I am so happy. It is my first win in a World Championship and after so much hard work and dedication it finally pays off. The team did a fantastic job and also my team mates, and we were able to make a big step from when we rode together in Le Mans. The whole team were so involved and gave the maximum, it was amazing to be part of this event with them. The Pole Position was really great, and I was faster than some guys that had previously raced in MotoGP at a high level which was a huge confidence boost for me as our bike was stock. We made great pit stops and we didn’t panic when we were in a fight on track. Honestly, I don’t know what to say, I am a bit overwhelmed. I just want to say a big thank you to everyone around me who always believed in me, finally we did it. Now I go to Assen where I will continue to focus on adapting to a full spec Superbike machine. I have shown in Estoril that when I understand the bike, I can be fast, and so I am sure that with the help of Outdo TPR Team Pedercini I will continue to grow and then we can show our true potential in WorldSBK. I am full of confidence for the future. I want to especially thank my parents and my sister who have given so much and always been there for me even in the tough times. I want to end by wishing the BMRT 3D Maxxess squad all the best for the rest of the World Endurance Championship. It’s a shame I cannot be there with them to fight for the title, but I will be with them mentally. Thanks to them for the opportunity to race these EWC races and thanks to all the people who sent me nice messages on social media, see you in Assen.”
